A Williamsburg man was killed and another was seriously injured early Friday morning in a crash in Prince Edward County.
Alexander M. Byrne, 22, died early Friday morning after he was involved in a fiery crash on Abilene Road in Prince Edward County, Virginia State Police said in a news release Monday.
Charges are pending against the driver, Tristan W. Georing, 21, also of Williamsburg, state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said. The state trooper is consulting with the county’s commonwealth’s attorney.
Byrne and two other unidentified 21-year-old men were riding in a 2009 Audi A4 driven by Georing at 12:47 a.m. Friday when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road as it came to a corner, according to the news release.
The vehicle struck the ditch and a tree, then caught fire.
Byrne was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene, according to the news release.
Georing was also not wearing a seat belt and was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
The other two men in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and were also taken to a nearby hospital. One of them was wearing a seat belt, the other was not, Geller said.
Geller declined to say whether alcohol or speed were factors in the crash, citing an open investigation.
Virginia State Police does not have updated information on the condition of the two unidentified passengers or Georing, Geller said.
