As Thanksgiving comes around, government employees get to have time off and enjoy their turkey, too.
Before heading out the door, make sure to be aware of county and city offices that are closed.
York County
- York County Public Schools, closed Wednesday-Friday
- Public libraries, Wed. closed 5 p.m., closed Thursday and Friday
- York County Courts, Wed. closed noon, closed Thursday and Friday
- Virginia Cooperative Extension, closed Wednesday at noon, closed Thursday and Friday
- County Government Offices, closed Thursday and Friday
- York-Poquoson Social Services, closed Thursday and Friday
- Waste Management Center Administration,closed Thursday and Friday
Garbage and recycling collections that are normally scheduled for Thursday, will be collected on Friday. Collections regularly scheduled for Friday will be moved to Saturday.
VPPSA Compost Facility, Goodwin Neck Transfer Station and Citizen Drop-off will be open for recycling and garbage drop off during regular hours on Friday and Saturday.
James City County
- James City County Recreation Center, closed Thursday

- Freedom Park store and office, closed Thursday, open Friday
- Chickahominy Riverfront Park Store and Office, closed Thursday and Friday

- James City County Library, closed at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, closed Thursday and Friday
- Williamsburg-James City County Court, closed at noon Wednesday, closed Thursday and Friday
- All county parks will remain open.
Curbside recycling will operate on a week-one delay beginning Thursday. Thursday’s recycling will be picked up on Friday and Friday’s recycling will be collected on Saturday.
City of Williamsburg
- City offices, closed Thursday and Friday
- Municipal Building, closed Thursday and Friday
- Quaterpath Recreation Center, closed at 4:30 Wednesday, closed Thursday and Friday
- Waller Mill Park, closed Thursday, open Friday
There will be no changes to the trash or recycling collection schedule. For water emergencies, call 757-220-2331.
To pay a bill, a payment box is available outside the Municipal Building or pay online. Payments made on Thursday and Friday will not be processed until the following Monday.
Thomas Nelson Community College will close at noon on Tuesday and reopen on Monday.
William & Mary will close on Wednesday and resume operations on Monday.
