From an initiating resolution to address protections for drinking water, to a resolution waiving building permit fees for homes hit by a tornado, the James City County Board of Supervisors meeting agenda has numerous items up for consideration Tuesday.
The Board is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the James City County Government Center Board Room, at 101 Mounts Bay Road.
This week’s agenda includes a public comment period, 12 items on the consent agenda, five public hearings, seven board considerations and a closed session.
Up for discussion at that closed session are appointments to county boards or commissions, including the Chesapeake Bay Wetlands Boards and the Williamsburg Area Arts Commission.

Protecting public water
The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote on an initiating resolution that would direct county staff and the Planning Commission to review regulations protecting drinking water supplies.
The resolution is listed under the Tuesday meeting’s consent calendar.
The initiating resolution was last up for a vote Oct. 9, but was delayed.
In October, Supervisor John McGlennon said he asked for a delay to help address questions about what a change might mean for properties with existing rights to build, such as the church-gas station-daycare combination approved for a property near the Skiffes Creek Reservoir.
The property, owned by the Peninsula Pentecostals, was initially referenced by McGlennon in May to describe the lack of regulations. The property, which could include a gas station if the church decides to build, is very close to to the Skiffes Creek Reservoir which supplies drinking water to Newport News.
If approved, the resolution would require the Planning Commission to develop a proposal to amend the county’s Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances for address protections for water supplies.
Waiving building permit fees
The James City County Planning Department has recommended waiving building permit fees for homes that were damaged by a tornado and Tropical Storm Michael Oct. 11.
The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote on the resolution under its consent calendar.
The storm and tornado caused more than $1.6 million in damage to 36 homes in the county, according to agenda documents.
Building permits are not limited to new builds or additions — they can also be required for repairing damage if it is structural, electrical or of another similar nature, Planning Director Paul Holt said.
Building permit fees can cost at least $70 depending on the extent of the rebuild or addition, Holt said.
