NORFOLK — A local babysitter is being accused of killing an 18-month-old child left in her care.
Ashadiya’Xolani Brooks, 35, of the 1100 block of Porter Road, is charged with second-degree murder, police said in a news release.
She is being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond — she was arrested Thursday.
On Oct. 23 around 12:15 p.m., police and paramedics responded to a home in the 1100 block of Porter Road on a report of an unresponsive child.
Medics took the 18-month-old to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters for treatment. The child died at the hospital two days later.
An autopsy, conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk ruled the death a homicide, police said.
Police did not immediately release other information regarding the case. They are asking anyone who may have information that would aid in their investigation to call the Norfolk Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP or submit a tip through the P3Tips mobile app.
