Gas prices across Virginia are beginning to drop as fall marches on.

The average price for gas in Hampton Roads is 6 cents cheaper than last week, at $2.57 per gallon, according to AAA Tidewater Virginia.

Fuel prices in Williamsburg are hovering even lower, between $2.49 and $2.53 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.

Statewide, gas prices are averaging $2.63, a 4-cent drop from last week, AAA said.

Virginia is trailing lower than the national gas average, which is $2.85.

At one point this month, gas prices were at their most-expensive average for October since 2014, AAA said.

“Motorists across the country are seeing gas prices more than a dime cheaper than last week,” said Georjeane Blumling, spokeswoman for AAA Tidewater Virginia. “Prices are falling despite market concerns about global supply and geopolitical tensions, but that could change later this month ahead of the U.S. announcement of imposed sanctions on Iran.”
