Take a step off the ledge and fly!
Ever had the desire to soar high between the trees, with the big blue sky above and the natural beauty of Virginia Beach wetlands below?
It’s now possible at one of the city’s newest attractions, Adventureworks Wetland Zipline Park. Situated on 60 wooded acres of coastal wetlands, Adventureworks opened in May at 1304 Prosperity Way, just off General Booth Boulevard.
“The views from the zipline are amazing,” said Spencer Giordano, manager of Adventureworks’ Virginia Beach location. “They give you the aerial view of the swamp that you would never get to see otherwise.”
For those who may not be familiar, ziplining is designed to enable a user to be propelled by gravity while travelling from the top to the bottom of an inclined cable. Users at the park wear a full-body harness and safety gear as they zip through nine individual ziplines that cover about 1.5 miles over the wetlands and through the big trees and old-growth forest.
Giordano said two guides lead each group through the park. One guide clips a user into the safety lanyard and sends him or her down the zipline, while the other guide assists users with their landing.
Anyone younger than 18 years of age will need a signed release from a parent. Zipliners should be in moderate-to-good physical condition and able to climb stairs, while there is a weight limit of 250 pounds.
The cost is $59 for adults and $49 for children. Reservations are recommended and there is a discount for groups of 20 or more.
Tours take place rain-or-shine but are cancelled in the event of lightning or high winds.
The zipline park is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Saturday and 12-4 p.m. on Sunday.
In addition to the new Virginia Beach location, Adventureworks has three zipline parks in Tennessee and one in Arkansas.
