William & Mary’s home football game Saturday was among many Tribe sporting events scheduled for this week that have been postponed or canceled because of Hurricane Florence.
On Tuesday, the W&M athletics department released a statement that all home events scheduled for Sept. 14 through 16 have been canceled or postponed. A makeup date has not been set yet for the Tribe’s CAA Football season opener against Elon. The release said the two teams and the Colonial Athletic Association are trying to find a date to make up the game.
“The safety of our student-athletes, staff and fans are paramount to any athletic contest and we must do our part to ensure their safety throughout the weather event,” W&M Director of Athletics Samantha K. Huge said in the release. “Our thoughts are with all of those in the storm’s path and our first responders.”
The men’s tennis matches at the Penn Invitational set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be played as scheduled. Monday’s men’s soccer match at Maryland also is still on.
