Norfolk offering back-to-school immunizations

NORFOLK — The city’s Department of Public Health is offering back to school immunizations for kindergartners and rising sixth graders.

Last year, hundreds of public school students in Norfolk were unable to start school on time because of out-of-date immunizations. Many of those students were rising sixth-graders in need of “Tdap” (tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis) boosters, according to a news release from the city.

The city is encouraging parents to avoid the last minute rush. Back to school immunization clinics are being offered at two locations:

There will be special back-to-school immunization clinics at the Little Creek Clinic on Wednesday (Aug. 29) and Wednesday (Sept. 5).

The city asks parents to bring valid photo identification, the child’s immunization record and insurance card.

The vaccines are free, but if people have insurance, the provider will be billed for the administrative fee.
