Four people were rescued early Saturday after a boat ran into trouble on the York River.
Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue crews were called around 1:20 a.m. for a report that a pontoon boat’s motor had stopped working and the vessel was taking on water west of the Coleman Bridge, according to post on the department’s Facebook page.
There were three adults, a child and two dogs aboard the vessel, which had blown to shore near Hayes by the time rescuers arrived, the department said.
The boat’s occupants were transferred to shore at Gloucester Point, the department said. No one was injured.
York County Fire & Life Safety and the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the rescue.
