Williamsburg man arrested after elderly woman injured in York hit-and-run

YORK — A Williamsburg man is in custody after an 86-year-old woman was hit while walking along a York County road, the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said.

Around 12:15 p.m. Monday, the woman was walking in the 700 block of Merrimac Trail after going to a nearby grocery store when a vehicle driven by Raekwon Lamont Jones of Williamsburg hit her, the sheriff’s office said.

Jones, 21, ran away from the scene but was quickly caught, the sheriff’s office said.

The woman was taken local hospital with serious injuries that are not considered life threatening.

Jones has been charged with felony hit and run. He is being held in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
