Have you heard of the National Lifeguard Championships? Well, the event is coming to Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH — The Jersey Mike’s 2018 National Lifeguard Championships will be on  Aug. 5-11 between 27^th and 30^th Streets at the Oceanfront.

The event is sanctioned by the United States Lifesaving Association in Huntington Beach, California and is produced by the Virginia Beach Lifeguard Association.

The competition features world class athletes from around the world and is free and open to the public, organizers said in a news release.

The daily activities are:

• Sunday, Aug. 5 – VBLA 5K/One Mile Ocean Swim Race.  9:30 a.m., 17^th Street.
• Tuesday, Aug. 7 – Free concert with Jordan Davis. 6-10 p.m., 31^st Street Park.
• Wednesday, Aug. 8:

1. Junior Guard Championships 9 a.m., 27^th-30^th streets.
2. Parade of Athletes 7 p.m., 31^st-24^th Street Park on boardwalk.
3. Championship Welcome Ceremony 7:30 p.m. 24^th Street Park.

• Thursday, Aug. 9 – 8 a.m. Day 1 National Lifeguard Championships 28^th-30^th streets.
• Friday, Aug. 10 –     8 a.m. Day 2 National Lifeguard Championships 28th-30^th streets.
• Saturday, Aug. 11 –  8 a.m. Day 3 National Lifeguard Championships 28th-30th streets.
