VIRGINIA BEACH — Three men are being hailed as heroes for pulling an unconscious woman out of a burning vehicle on Interstate 264 Thursday.

The Virginia State Police identified the men as Douglas McCowan, Richard Hobbs, of Chesapeake, and Billy Stone, of Virginia Beach.

At around 12:29 p.m. on Thursday, Linda Fedee was driving eastbound on I-264 near First Colonial when she lost control of her PT Cruiser because of a medical emergency, State Police said.

The vehicle ran off the roadway and struck several trees and immediately caught fire.

McCowan, Hobs and Stone were passing by, witnessed the crash and “immediately pulled over to render assistance,” State Police said.

They “carried Ms. Fedee to the roadside and waited with her for emergency personnel to arrive,” said State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya. “The Virginia State Police wants to recognize these amazing citizens for their bravery and compassion in helping a person in need.”

Information on Fedee’s condition was not immediately released.
