A woman has been charged with several felonies, including attempted murder, after deputies say she tried to shoot her husband early Tuesday morning.

Authorities believe Kassie Downs, 35, of York County, fired two shots from a handgun and attempted to murder her 49-year-old husband while four children were inside her house.

There were no injuries from the shooting, the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said.

Downs is charged with attempted murder, reckless handling of a firearm, four counts of child endangerment, unlawfully shooting in an occupied building and attempted unlawful wounding.

Deputies responded to the home, located near the intersection of Big Gap Road and Skimono Road, around 12:48 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a domestic incident in progress, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shelley Ward said.

Two shots were fired during the incident, one outside the house and one inside, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies arrived to find Downs on the lawn of the home, then arrested her without incident, Ward said.

Both Downs and her husband list the location of the incident as their primary address, Ward said.

Downs is being held at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, according to online jail records.
