VIRGINIA BEACH — A Florida man is facing serious charges in connection with two-vehicle crash that left a woman dead Sunday night.
Police identified the person killed as Maria Grayson Fox of Virginia Beach.
She was 73 years old.
The driver of the vehicle police say struck the woman’s Lexus SUV, Anthony Francis Spence, of Winter Park, is charged with involuntary manslaughter, DWI, hit-and-run, and refusing a blood/breath test.
Spence is being held in jail without bond, according to the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office online jail booking information.
Officers and emergency medical personnel were called to the scene of the crash in the 1700 block of North Great Neck Road at around 9:52 p.m. Sunday.
Police said a Lexus SUV driven by Fox was eastbound on River Road. She made right onto southbound Great Neck Road and “was stuck in the left rear by a white 4 door Hyundai Sonata,” driven by Spence.
“Both occupants of the Hyundai fled the scene on foot,” police wrote in a news release.
They were caught a short time later, police said. Both were treated for “non-life-threatening” injuries at a local hospital. Information on their identities was not immediately released.
Fox died at the scene.
Police said they believe alcohol and speed are factors in the crash, and “charges are pending for the driver of the Hyundai.”
Information on the identity of Spence’s passenger was not immediately released.
Police are still investigating the crash and are asking anyone who may have information to call Virginia Beach Crime Solvers at 888-LOCK-U-UP.
