VIRGINIA BEACH — A 26-year-old man will serve time in prison for raping a child “known to him.

Aaron Anthony Marsh, of Virginia Beach, was sentenced earlier this week to 121 years in prison, with 101 years suspended, for two counts of rape, forcible sodomy, aggravated sexual battery and assault and battery. All the charges had the notation “victim under age 13.”

The sentence was the maximum allowed under the plea deal.

According to the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, between May 1, 2015 and September 2015, Marsh, the child and “other people known to them,” went to the beach.

Marsh volunteered to drive the child home. Prosecutors said he stopped in a secluded area and raped the child.

Marsh stopped the assault when he got a cellphone call from his girlfriend.

Then one day in April 2016, Marsh woke the child up. He repeatedly hit the child on the side of the head when she “tried to escape the sexual abuse,” according to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

He raped the child “while a number of people slept nearby.”

“The victim, growing even more fearful of Marsh, told a friend, who told a relative about the abuse,” the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office said.

Marsh has prior convictions for disorderly conduct, unlawful possession of alcohol, unlawful threatening, maliciously affix signature to the writing of another, identity theft to avoid arrest and false ID to law enforcement.
