YORK — The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office has charged two people with several felonies after they allegedly robbed a man working in his yard.

Superia Pittman, 18, and Kavion Smith, 19, both of Newport News, have been arrested and charged with robbery, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and abduction, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies responded to the 100 block of Oak Street around 5 p.m. Monday for a report of a robbery, according to sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shelley Ward.

A homeowner was working in his yard when a man and woman wearing black hooded sweatshirts drove up in a beige minivan, approached him with two handguns and demanded cash, Ward said.

After the alleged robbery, the two fled the scene. The sheriff’s office sent out a description of the suspects and vehicle information to nearby localities.

Pittman and Smith were later located and arrested in Newport News.

Pittman and Smith are scheduled to appear in at 1:30 p.m. June 25 in York-Poquoson General District Court.

Both are still in custody at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail in Williamsburg, according to online court records.

Anyone with additional information on the alleged robbery is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 757-890-4999 or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
