This man is 60 and he went on a 2-day crime spree, police say

Johnnie N. Jones (Norfolk City Jail)

NORFOLK — Police say a 60-year-old man is responsible for a series of robberies Sunday and Monday.

Johnnie N. Jones, of the 800 block of Tifton Street, was arrested Monday afternoon. He is charged with three counts of robbery, one count of attempted robbery, four counts of using a firearm during the commission of a felony, and eluding police.

Jones is being held in the Norfolk City Jail.

Police started looking for Jones Sunday, when he allegedly went on a crime spree armed with a gun:

  • Robbery at CVS, 972 E. Little Creek Road, around 5:30 a.m.
  • Attempted robbery at CVS, 3200 Lafayette Blvd., around 9:10 p.m.
  • Robbery at Walgreens, 115 W. Little Creek Road, around 9:25 p.m.

Then on Monday police responded to Walgreens at 810 West 21st St. on another report of a robbery.

A short time later officers found the vehicle driven by the suspect, later identified as Jones.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused and sped away at a high rate of speed, authorities said.

Officers later stopped the chase “because of the unsafe speed of the driver,” according to a news release.

The vehicle was later spotted parked in the 800 block of the East Little Creek Road.

Officers searched the area and found Jones hiding in a nearby business, according to the news release.

No injuries were reported during the robberies, police said.
