The National Weather Service has issued a weather warning for Thursday, stating there will be increased fire danger in parts of Virginia Thursday.
A combination of gusty winds from the west, low humidity and low fuel moisture on Thursday will increase the risk of wildfires, according to an urgent NWS fire weather message.
A red flag warning is in place until 8 p.m. Thursday, meaning there are “critical” fire weather conditions that could promote fast-spreading wildfires that are difficult to control.
The increased risk covers areas including Eastern Piedmont, Richmond, the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck. James City County and New Kent are included in the warning.
The weather message says all outdoor burning should be postponed until weather conditions improve. Activities that use open flames or creates sparks should also be avoided.
Open burning is prohibited before 4 p.m. each day through April 30.
