VIRGINIA BEACH — Capt. Shannon Wichtendahl, a Project Lifesaver police officer, had been working with autistic children and their families for quite some time when she got an idea.
What if she could set up a monthly play date between children with autism spectrum disorder and other Virginia Beach students?

NORFOLK — Danny Meeks, who is a former Portsmouth City Council member and is president of Select Waste Recycling Services said he started the approval process with the City of Norfolk in July 2017. Since then, the city gave Select Recycling its business license and zoning approval, and the business received approval at the state level as well.
But despite the company checking all the boxes, some city officials — lead by Norfolk City Council member Angelia Willams Graves — don’t like the type of business that Select Recycling represents or how close to the adjacent neighborhood the business will operate. NORFOLK — Allegiant announced last week it is adding Jacksonville International Airport as its newest nonstop destination from the Norfolk International Airport.
Although flights are on sale, the seasonal service will not take off from the runway until June 14. One-way fares can be purchased for as little as $49. READ MORE.

VIRGINIA BEACH — Vice Mayor Louis Jones proposed new rules for short-term rental properties.
Jones’ proposed ordinance would create a new a short-term rental overlay district; this district would actually be composed of three existing and separate overlays that are already heavily engaged in short-term rental use — the Sandbridge Special Service District, the Oceanfront Resort, and the North End overlay.
