Friday is the last day to register kids in James City County’s Parks and Recreation spring break programs.
Children aged between five and 14 are eligible for REC Connect Spring Break Programs that run April 2-6, according to a press release from James City County. The program will get kids out of the house between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. each day.
Three different locations – Clara Byrd Baker Elementary School, Norge Elementary School and Laurel Lane Elementary School – will host the spring break programs. Parents can pick the site that is most convenient for them.
Children will be split into two groups, based on age.
The following programs will be held for kids between ages 5 and 10 each day:
- “Showtime!” Monday, April 2: Kids will catch a movie at Regal Cinemas.
- “Clay Creations!” Tuesday, April 3: Kids will create their own piece of art at Paint on Pottery in Williamsburg.
- “Up, Up and Away!” Wednesday, April 4: Field trip to the Virginia Air & Space Center in Hampton, for an IMAX movie and space exhibits
- “Theatrical Fun!” Thursday, April 5: Kids will see a live performance at the James City County Library Theatre
- “Ready, Set, Go!” Friday, April 6: Outdoor field day adventures. Lunch is included.
Those aged 11 through 14 will participate in the following programs, held daily at the James City County Recreation Center:
- “Jump into Spring,” Monday, April 2: Field trip to Jumpology in Richmond.
- “Tag – You’re Out!” Tuesday, April 3: A fun-filled mission and a game of Laser Quest in Richmond.
- “On the Move!” Wednesday, April 4: Trip to Go-Kart Plus for racing and playing.
- “Discovering Nature,” Thursday, April 5: Kids will explore the Virginia Living Museum.
- “A New Catch,” Friday, April 6: Kids can play disc golf at New Quarter Park, explore the outdoors and celebrate the end of spring break with a cookout.
Children must be registered by the deadline of Friday, March 30 at 10 a.m. Parents can register their kids on the Parks and Recreation homepage, by calling 757-259-4200, or in person at any of these locations:
- James City County Recreation Center, 5301 Longhill Road
- Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, 8901 Pocahontas Trail
- Freedom Park Interpretive Center, 5537 Centerville Road
- Satellite Services Office (Toano), 3127 Forge Road
- Chickahominy Riverfront Park, 1350 John Tyler Highway
Registration is $30 per day for James City County and Williamsburg residents, and $35 per day for all others.
