VIRGINIA BEACH — Police are investigating the possible embezzlement of $230,000 from a Virginia Beach plastic-surgery practice, according to court documents.
Detectives believe an employee of Mancoll Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery embezzled money from the company between Jan. 1, 2013 and June 1, 2017, according to a search warrant filed in Virginia Beach Circuit Court.
The company alerted the Virginia Beach Police Department after a financial audit showed they were missing about $230,000. The company identified an employee, whose signature was on a number of suspicious transactions involving plastic-surgery quotes, deposits and payments, the search warrant says.
Mancoll Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery representatives did not respond to a request for comment before the time of publication.
Police believe the employee allegedly manipulated the amount of money customers were paying for their surgeries and stole money while recording it in the company’s system, court documents say.
For example, if a customer paid a deposit to secure a surgery, then returned to pay the remaining balance, the employee allegedly deleted the large payment in the electronic system, and changed the quote to reflect a cheaper amount. The employee would then pay the company the cheaper amount, and pocket the rest of the money, according to court documents.
On Feb. 1, VBPD detectives filed for the search warrant so they could gain access to the employee’s bank records. VBPD Master Police Officer Linda Kuehn said that no one has been arrested in connection to the case, which is still under investigation.
