WILLIAMSBURG — Business owners looking to minimize the impact of future extreme weather events can get a helping hand from the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance and Old Dominion University.

The chamber (GWCTA) and its partners are holding a workshop to assist business owners and managers with environmental risk management, according to GWCTA spokeswoman Kayla Kearse.

The workshop is scheduled to be held at the Williamsburg Community Building from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 28.

The workshop will help businesses assess their level of resilience to extreme weather events such as hurricanes as well as flooding.

The chamber has said the workshop can help businesses increase their operational continuity, also known as a business’s ability to remain open despite the outside environment.

Partners for the workshop include Old Dominion University, the College of William and Mary Law School’s Virginia Coastal Policy Center, the Commonwealth Center for Recurrent Flooding Resilience, Sea Grant Virginia, Coastal Virginia Tourism Alliance, Gold Key PHR, the Miles Agency, and the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance.

The event is co-sponsored by the City of Williamsburg.
