
Plan ahead motorists: Construction on the Interstate 64 corridor could lead to delays for travelers over the next week.
Crews with VDOT will close a series of interstate ramps on I-64 and some nearby streets that will likely cause nightly delays due to the I-64 widening project.
A series of interstate on-ramps and off-ramps on I-64 will be closed. Alternating single-lane closures will also be in effect between Fort Eustis Boulevard and the Colonial Parkway in both directions of the interstate.
A full list of scheduled closures is below.
Lane closures:
- Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 east and west Jan. 21-25, starting as early as 8 p.m. and ending about 5 a.m., from the Colonial Parkway to Fort Eustis Boulevard (Exit 250).
- Alternating single-lane closures on Fort Eustis Boulevard underneath I-64, Nov. 13-17, starting as early as 8 p.m. and ending about 5 a.m.
- Lane closures under flagger control on Penniman Road at the I-64 overpasses on Jan. 21-25, from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m.
- Lane closures under flagger control on Jefferson Avenue at the I-64 overpasses on Jan. 21-25, from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m.
- Single lane closures of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel eastbound on Jan. 20 from 2 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a single lane closure westbound on the tunnel from 3 a.m. to 4 a.m.
- The westbound side of the tunnel will experience more single lane closures on Jan. 21-25 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Ramp closures:
- I-64 west off-ramp to Route 143 (exit 243B) on Jan. 21-25 from 7 a.m. to 5 a.m.
- Route 199 west on-ramp to I-64 east on Jan. 21-25 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Route 199 east on-ramp to I-64 west on Jan. 21-25 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Signs will be in place to alert motorists to the ramp closures and detours.
