VIRGINIA BEACH — Five people were injured after a man had a medical emergency while driving and crashed his car into a Kempsville-area bank on Tuesday afternoon, officials say.
Virginia Beach Fire Department officials believe the man, who was driving alone, had a medical emergency shortly after noon that led to him crashing his car into the front right side of the Bank of America located at 1370 Fordham Drive
The driver was trapped in the car by debris from the building and had to be rescued by the VBFD’s technical rescue team. Four other people inside the bank were also injured when he crashed nearly all the way through the building, according to the VBFD.
All victims are expected to survive. The driver and a woman who was inside the bank during the crash were taken to local hospitals for treatments.
