26-year-old man escapes Virginia Beach fire through second-floor window

VIRGINIA BEACH — A 26-year-old man was injured when he escaped from the second floor of a Virginia Beach home that caught fire Monday morning.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department believes an over-heated electrical circuit started the fire at the home in the 400 block of Burr Oak Circle.

When first responders arrived around 9:20 a.m. they saw smoke and flames coming out of the end-unit residential building. Six people escaped the blaze. Two children were at school when the house caught fire, according to the VBFD.

A 26-year-old man was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor burns and a cut after he escaped through a second-floor window. A 94-year-old man was also taken to the hospital to be treated for breathing issues he developed while standing outside the home, according to the VBFD.
