Greensprings West house damaged significantly after garage, attic fire

A home in the Greensprings West subdivision in James City County sustained significant damage Sunday night after a fire broke out in the garage.

The James City County Fire Department responded at 5:05 p.m. to a structure fire in the 4000 block of Thorngate Drive, according to a county news release.

Fire crews arrived to find a fire in the garage that had spread to the attic of the two-story home, the release said.

The house’s occupants were able to get out of the building and to safety before the fire department arrived.

Firefighters got the fire under control at 5:48 p.m. with the assistance of the Williamsburg Fire Department, the release said.

The house sustained significant damage from fire and water, the release said.

The fire is still under investigation
