NORFOLK — A 28-year-old Chesapeake man has been charged in connection with the hit-and-run death of a Philadelphia man on Tuesday.

Gregory Peterson, of the 400 block of Nicholas Court, has been charged with a felony hit-and-run while driving on a suspended license. He turned himself into the Norfolk Police Department on Friday, officials say.

The charge stems from the hit-and-run death of 27-year-old John Cutillo III. Police responded to the crash at 10:40 p.m. and found Cutillo lying unconscious in the intersection of Saint Paul’s Boulevard and E. Charlotte Street, according to the Norfolk Police Department.

Cutillo was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe Cutillo was hit while crossing the intersection of E. Charlotte Street by Peterson, who was allegedly driving recklessly south on Saint Paul’s Boulevard in a red Jeep, according to the NPD.

Police say Peterson did not stop to check on Cutillo; however, as a result of the first crash, a Cadillac Escalade also hit the Philadelphia man and that driver did stop to check on him, according to the NPD.
