Farm Fresh in Norge closed Tuesday afternoon after a case in the deli section caught fire.

James City County Fire Department crews responded to the Farm Fresh, located at 115 Norge Lane, around 12:42 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a call a deli case was on fire, according to Batallion Chief Al Catlett.

Staff at the Farm Fresh were able to use portable fire extinguishers to put out the fire, Catlett said.

Fire officials believe the case had an electrical malfunction, causing it to catch fire. Customers and staff were evacuated from the store, he added.

The fire was contained in the deli area, Catlett said. Some food items in the store were contaminated due to smoke and the extinguisher’s spray, closing the Farm Fresh until the scene was cleaned.

Catlett did not have a timeframe for how long the store would be closed.

The deli case was the only property to sustain damage, and there were no injuries, Catlett said.
