VIRGINIA BEACH — A man drowned while swimming in Sandbridge Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Dispatch received a call around 2:30 p.m. about a man in the 2500 block of Sandfiddler Road who was swimming in the water but did not resurface. Police said bystanders entered the water to pull the man to shore and began to give him CPR.
Virginia Beach Fire Department and EMS members took over resuscitation efforts but were unsuccessful. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The case is being investigated by Virginia Beach police detectives.
