Teenage Yorktown race car driver Macy Causey has returned to a competition for NASCAR youngsters as she aims to position herself in a top ride for 2018.

The 16-year-old Causey is one of a dozen young drivers who will compete in the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Combine in Florida, according to a NASCAR press release.

The combine serves as a major factor in the selection process for Rev Racing’s 2018 driver lineup, and according to the release, there are four seats available.

Rev Racing partners with NASCAR on the Drive for Diversity program, which provides opportunities and experience for female and minority drivers.

“The roster of talent coming to the 2017 NASCAR Drive for Diversity Combine is one of the deepest we’ve ever had,” said Max Siegel, CEO of Rev Racing. “We are excited to continue to work within the sport to make significant inroads and provide an opportunity for truly talented race car drivers to advance.”

Causey participated in the combine in 2016 and was selected to drive with Rev Racing for the 2017 season. The combine returns to New Smyrna Speedway in Florida Oct. 16-18.

This year was a year of firsts for Causey, as she spent her first season with Rev Racing and scored her first win in the Late Model Division in a race at South Boston Speedway in June. Causey was also the first female driver to ever win a Late Model Division race at the track in southern Virginia.

“My win helped me for the rest of the season,” Causey said. “I was really impressed with myself.”

She added that she improved her technical knowledge of the race cars, and her ability to provide feedback to her crew, during the 2017 campaign.

Causey said she was grateful for Rev Racing, her crew and crew chief, and her family for their help and support throughout the season.

“I’ve loved the whole Rev experience,” Causey said. “With as much as they’ve taught me about being an athlete—working out every day and doing media training— it really does help a lot… Rev Racing has definitely taught me a lot, and I’m grateful.”

Causey raced in the Late Model Division in 2017, and said she was hoping to earn a spot in the K&N Pro Series for 2018. She said K&N cars are heavier, but Causey is eager for the challenge.

The drivers will participate in driving evaluations in both Late Model cars and K&N cars during the combine, according to the release. They will also undergo physical assessments and media training.

Three drivers will be selected to race full-time in the K&N Series and another will drive in the Late Model program for Rev Racing.

Causey said she will be competing in one more race before the end of 2017. She will race in the Myrtle Beach 400 in November.
