Man dies after falling at construction site Tuesday

A 60-year-old man died Tuesday morning after falling from the second floor at a residential construction site in James City County, police said.

Police received an emergency call around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday reporting a person had fallen at a construction site in the 4700 block of Fenton Mill Road, according to a James City County Police news release.

William Joseph Jowers, of Gloucester, was sanding on the second floor of a residence when he fell onto a stairwell on the floor below, the release said.

Police, fire and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, then transported Jowers to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.

Jowers was pronounced dead at the hospital, the release said.

The incident remains under investigation.
