A Hampton University associate professor and author will speak at William & Mary Thursday, detailing her work about womanhood, ethnicity, gender, family, heritage, and more.
Poet, memoirist and fiction writer Shonda Buchanan will appear in the Tucker Theater Thursday from 5-7 p.m., according to the William & Mary website.
Her appearance is a part of the Patrick Hayes Writers Series, during which the W&M English Department invites contemporary writers from various genres to share their work and writing experiences in public events.
Buchanan is the author of “Equipoise: Poems from Goddess Country” and “Who’s Afraid of Black Indians?” She is also the 2017 Donaldson Writer in Residence, which is a program that pairs a creative writer with undergraduate students in writing seminars.
In addition to her work at Hampton University, Buchanan is also teaching a graduate-level class titled “Poetry of Self, Place and Time” at William & Mary.
The event is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a book signing and reception.
