NORFOLK — An alleged pimp nicknamed “King” instructed a prostitute working for him to target and charm homeless and jobless women so he could lure them into a sex trafficking ring, according to court documents.
Of the eight prostitutes he allegedly controlled, one of them was a juvenile and another turned 18 while working for him. Police believe he sometimes filmed them while they had sex, and that he planned to create a website where people could watch and interact with them online, according to documents filed in Norfolk Circuit Court.
Keith Anthony “King” Jarrett, 45, was indicted by a grand jury on Sept. 6 on charges connected to a sex trafficking ring that he allegedly ran from his Bellamy Avenue home, court documents state.
The charges came after two people he allegedly pimped out talked to Norfolk detectives on May 12. Court documents don’t reveal their names or genders, instead referring to them as “Victim 1” and “Victim 2.”
“Victim 1” told police that they worked as a prostitute and recruiter for Jarrett. “Victim 1” gave Jarrett all the money earned from prostitution appointments that happened in his home and in North Carolina, court documents allege.
Jarrett allegedly sent “Victim 1” out to search for new women he could prostitute. He outfitted “Victim 1” with a car and cash to spend on women who looked homeless or jobless in an effort to recruit them into the operation, court documents state.
“Victim 1” spent the money buying the recruits dinners and clothing, and sometimes Jarrett took them out on his boat, according to court documents.
If interested, “Victim 1” would take the new recruit to Jarrett and they would have sex with him and clients in exchange for money. A portion of the cash — and sometimes all of it — would go to Jarrett, court documents state.
The prostitutes used a referral system and business cards to set up appointments with clients. The sex would happen in various locations, but much of the time it happened at Jarrett’s Bellamy Avenue home, according to court documents.
A second victim also spoke with police on May 12, telling detectives about a time they had performed sexual acts for money “under the guidance” of “Victim 1” and Jarrett. When the sex was finished, “Victim 2” gave Jarrett $40 and kept the rest of the money, court documents state.
Police searched Jarrett’s home on May 12 and found computers, cameras, drives, paperwork, notebooks, cellphones and banking information.
Jarrett is scheduled for a Feb. 6, 2018 trial for the charges of two counts of rape, three counts of forcible sodomy, three counts of assault and battery of a family member, abduction, rape, receiving money from prostitution and sex trafficking, according to the Virginia Courts Case Information System.
Jarrett was granted bond on July 6.
