Police are investigating after a man reported he was robbed and threatened with a gun at a 7-Eleven gas pump.

A man told police Sunday he had been robbed around 3 p.m. the previous day, according to James City County Police spokeswoman Stephanie Williams.

The man was pumping gas at the 7-Eleven at the corner of John Tyler Highway and Ironbound Road when a man he knew approached him and said he owed him money, Williams said.

The man then reached into the victim’s car and took his cell phone, police said.

When the victim attempted to get the phone back, the man put his hand on a gun that was “on his side,” telling him not to call police, Williams said.

The man did not take the gun out, Williams confirmed.

The incident is still under investigation.
