Man sentenced to 9 years for stealing thousands in Christmas gifts from Virginia Beach homes

VIRGINIA BEACH — A 21-year-old man will spend nine years in prison after he burglarized several Virginia Beach homes and stole thousands of dollars worth of Christmas gifts.

Patrick Anthony Caprice, of the 1100 block of Gunn Hall Drive, pleaded guilty to nine counts of burglary; grand larceny; felony falsely obtaining money; and misdemeanor falsely obtaining money on June 20.

On Tuesday, Virginia Beach Circuit Court Jude A. Bonwill Shockley sentenced him to nine years in prison and to pay nearly $48,000 in restitution.

Caprice’s sentence comes about a year after he began burglarizing homes in neighborhoods along General Booth Boulevard, according to a news release from the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney.

From Sept. 24, 2016 until three days before Christmas, Caprice burglarized nine homes and mainly stole Christmas gifts — several of which were wrapped and under Christmas trees.

The stolen items included televisions, electronics, jewelry, cash, alcohol, guns, Christmas ornaments, knives and a rare coin collection, the release states.

During one burglary, Caprice had help from a man named Aaron Credle.

Credle pleaded guilty to statutory burglary, conspiracy and petit larceny on April 26 and was sentenced to two months in jail. His charges came after neighbors reported him and Caprice leaving a home on Dec. 2, 2016. Within minutes, police stopped them and Caprice admitted to his involvement in the crime, according to the release.

Caprice was granted bond, but after his release, he broke into seven other Virginia Beach homes. He also stole Nordstrom gift cards from under a Christmas tree located at a friend’s house on Dec. 22, 2016, the release states.

Police searched his home on Jan. 17 and found $47,967.10 in stolen items. Authorities were able to return several of the items to their rightful owners.
