An overturned vehicle hit a power pole and caused a power outage Monday afternoon in the Tabb area of York County, police said.
Over 2,500 Dominion Energy customers, including Tabb Middle School and Mt. Vernon Elementary School, were without power as of 2 p.m. Monday, according to a Dominion power outage map.
York County schools tweeted about the outage at the two schools just before 2 p.m.
A vehicle overturned in the northbound lanes of Hampton Highway, York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Shelley Ward said. The accident occurred near Salty Paws Veterinary Hospital, located at 329 Hampton Highway.
Dominion is estimating power to be restored to all 2,541 customers between 4 and 7 p.m.
Both lanes of Hampton Highway will be closed for four to five hours while Dominion works to restore power, Ward said.
Virginia State Police, York County Fire & Life Safety and the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office are on scene, Ward said.
