
A 47-year-old man was arrested Aug. 27 after he allegedly sent almost 200 text messages to a York County woman threatening to burn her house down, police said.
John Roy Nesbitt, of Newport News, is charged with making annoying phone calls and threats to bomb or damage a building, according to York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Shelley Ward.
The sheriff’s office received a call from a woman at 10:42 a.m. Aug. 22 reporting a man she knew, Nesbitt, was sending threatening text messages, Ward said.
She told police he sent “almost 200” messages between Aug. 20 and 22 threatening to burn down her house in the 4200 block of George Washington Memorial Highway, Ward said.
Newport News Police arrested Nesbitt Aug. 27 in Newport News, Ward said.
Nesbitt was arraigned Wednesday morning and is scheduled to appear at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 13 in the York-Poquoson General District Court.
