VBPD: Man dies at hospital days after banging on doors during ‘medical crisis’

VIRGINIA BEACH — A man died Wednesday afternoon, days after officers responded to him banging on the doors of several homes, police said.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the 100 block of Kentucky Avenue for a call about a “suspicious” male banging on doors in the neighborhood. Arriving officers determined the man was suffering from a medical crisis, including a visible head injury.

Police say they were forced to restrain him so he could receive treatment.

The man was brought to an area hospital with an unknown medical condition. He died at the hospital on Wednesday.

The cause of death is being investigated by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s forensic services unit and the Virginia Beach Police Department.

No other details, including the man’s identity, have been released.
