VIRGINIA BEACH — The Chesapeake Bay Foundation has been working to keep the bay healthy for 50 years. To celebrate their efforts, join the foundation at the “Save the Bay Family Day” on Sept. 10.

What can you do at the free event to celebrate the Chesapeake Bay? You can take boat trips, build oyster cages, meet wildlife up close, print t-shirts and even meet a mermaid. There will also be a touch tank featuring fish and other organisms that inhabit the Lynnhaven River.

For thirsty adults, Pleasure House Brewing will debut a new beer brewed with collected rainwater called Rain Barrel.

Save the Bay Family Day will start at 12:30 p.m. and run through 4 p.m. at the foundation’s Brock Environmental Center, located at 3663 Marlin Bay Drive in Virginia Beach.

The event is free, but attendees must RSVP online in advance.
