Sixteen-year-old York County race car driver Macy Causey plans to be back in her race car a week after being hospitalized following a 130-mph wreck.
Causey raced at Dominion Raceway outside of Fredericksburg Saturday night. After fellow racer Mike Darne made contact with her number 33 Late Model car Saturday, Causey spun and slammed into the concrete outside wall.
“I was battling on the outside for about five laps and trying to fight for second [place],” Causey said. “[Darne] blew a right front controlling arm and it sent me into the wall pretty quick.”
Causey has had plenty of hours on the track, so wrecks are nothing new. This year, she has split her racing time between her family team and Rev Racing.

Rev Racing provides auto racing opportunities for minority and female drivers in partnership with NASCAR, and Causey was selected for the team’s 2017 Drive for Diversity program.
Causey said the rear of her car slammed hard into the wall before the driver’s side impacted the wall.
“It knocked me out for about 15 seconds,” Causey said.
She was able to walk to the driver’s medical care center under her own power, and was told because she was knocked unconscious she would need to be checked out at a local hospital. Causey was sent to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, and doctors conducted a CT scan and x-rays.
Causey was released around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning. As of Tuesday afternoon, Causey said she was feeling much better — but not yet 100 percent.
“My head is still hurting a little bit,” Causey said. “Typically, the second or third day is when you’re sore.”

This was not the first crash of Causey’s career, and sore or not, she said she is ready to get back on the race track.
She said Mary Washington’s doctors have cleared her to race again, and if a check-up this week goes well, she will race again this weekend at her home track: Langley Speedway in Hampton.
“I’m cleared to race and that’s what I’m looking forward to,” said Causey. “I can put [the wreck] behind me. I’ve gotten into pretty bad wrecks before.”
“It’s not going to stop me,” Causey added.
