Some James City County residents received quite a scare Sunday afternoon after seeing what they believed was a beheading.

James City County Police responded to 105 Howard Drive in Grove around 4 p.m. Sunday after receiving an emergency phone call, police spokeswoman Stephanie Williams said.

The caller told police she saw a person with a bag over their head and another person with a “weapon,” Williams said.

Police arrived to the location, near the corner of Howard Drive and Pocahontas Trail, to find a man bound with a hood over his head and two people standing behind him, police said. One person had a sword held up to the back of his neck.

After looking further, police determined the sword was actually a prop, and the four people were participating in a photo shoot.

The people involved said the photo shoot was for a clothing line, Williams said.

Police allowed the group to continue their photo shoot, as the sword was not real and they were not committing any crimes, Williams said. Since no one was charged with a crime, their names have not been released.
