Virginia Beach needs your input to help end homelessness

VIRGINIA BEACH — You could help shape how the city of Virginia Beach tackles homelessness. The city government is updating the framework plan it uses to organize efforts to provide shelter and support for at-risk individuals and families, and they’re taking public comment.

Residents can submit their input on the revamped plan and what they’d like to see added or maintained through an online form from now until Sept. 1.

“The plan is intended to serve the needs of all who experience homelessness or a housing crisis, including families, individuals, youth, veterans, and people transitioning from institutional living,” a press release states.

It will incorporate new research and lessons learned over the last four years since the city first adopted the plan.

The city oversees the Bringing an End to All City Homelessness partnership between the city, local businesses, faith-based organizations and other non-profits.

Next summer, they’re set to unveil a $30-million Housing Resource Center on Witchduck Road. The space will be able to house over 100 individuals in varying capacities, as well as provide a kitchen, learning center and access to health care and social services.

If you or a loved one are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless, local assistance can be reached through the Regional Housing Crisis Hotline at 757-227-5932.
