VIRGINIA BEACH — Police believe a Norfolk man may have been armed with a stolen gun when he allegedly kicked in the front door of a woman’s home and searched for her while her 11-year-old son was inside.

Charles Anthony Hursey, 39, is charged with burglary with intent to kill, rape or rob; using a gun in the commission of a felony; and threatening a person via text.

Police say Hursey was texting the woman in the early hours of July 10. He was angry at her for being out with friends and thought she was with another man, according to documents filed in Virginia Beach Circuit Court.

Around 3 a.m., Hursey told the woman he was on the way to her Westerwald Place home and was going to kick in her door and kill her, court documents state.

The woman wasn’t home, but her 11-year-old son was.

Hursey kicked in the door of the home and the child watched him search the home for the woman. The boy called his mother and told her what happened, and she called 911, according to court documents.

When the woman and police arrived at the house, Hursey was no longer there. The boy said that Hursey drove away from the apartment in a red car.

Police looked at the texts that Hursey sent the woman from midnight to 3 a.m., and tracked his cell phone back to his Norfolk home, located in the 700 block of Hampton Boulevard.

When they arrived, they spoke to an apartment real estate agent who said she believed Hursey’s name was “Johnson Abraham,” and that he rented the condo on July 7 under that name, court documents show.

Police called Hursey on his cell phone, and he claimed he wasn’t at the home; however, police could hear their K-9 dogs barking in the background of the phone call.

Huresy was arrested that morning. During a July 11 search of his home, police found two guns, drug paraphernalia, a “green leafy substance” and “white powder substance,” court documents show.

One of the guns was a black Masterpiece Arms Tech 9 that was hidden in the stove. Inside the car, which was rented from Hertz, police also found a black SIG Sauer handgun.

Records showed that the SIG Sauer was stolen out of Hampton, according to court documents.

Police also found bank cards, a Maryland identification card and a social security card hidden in an upstairs bathroom ceiling vent. The cards were taken out under the name “Abraham Johnson,” but many of them had Hursey’s picture on them, court documents show.

Police requested a search warrant of Hursey’s DNA to compare to the swab on the guns that were at his house.
