A Georgia man who sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl in 2015 will soon be released from jail and sent back to Georgia on probation.

James Ronald Baughn, 36, was sentenced April 20 to 10 years in prison with all time suspended for inappropriately touching and penetrating a female relative with an “object”, according to court documents filed in the Williamsburg-James City County Circuit Court.

He pleaded guilty to two amended charges of abuse and child neglect. He was originally charged with object sexual penetration, aggravated sexual battery of a victim under 13-years-old and assault and battery.

Per his plea agreement, Baughn is required to return to Georgia as soon as the state accepts his 20-year probation.

Baughn, who is from Smyrna, Ga., was arrested by James City County Police on April 15, 2016 for inappropriately touching a child in October and November 2015, documents show.

According to addresses listed on court documents, Baughn was living in Williamsburg with a relative who has several children at the time of the sex offense.

Documents state Baughn is not allowed to have any contact with the victim or her family, and cannot have any supervised contact with children under age 16. He must also undergo a psychosexual evaluation and sex offender therapy.

Baughn is being held at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail until the Georgia Department of Community Supervision accepts his probation. When his probation is accepted, he must report to the Georgia probation office within 72 hours of his release from jail.

Baughn has been incarcerated since his arrest last year, and will get credit for time he’s served while awaiting trial, the plea agreement states.

He is scheduled for a case review at 9 a.m. May 19 in the Williamsburg-James City County Circuit Court.
