Residents near Jamestown Road may see crews working due to a nighttime milling and paving operation, which began earlier this week, James City County officials said.
Work on the project, which could be noisy with lots of lights throughout the night, is taking place primarily between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. to minimize impacts to daytime traffic. The project is expected to continue over the next two weeks.
Virginia Department of Transportation contract crews are making nightly progress along the route, between the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry dock and Route 199 (Humelsine Parkway).
Work-related disturbances are not likely to occur in the same location for more than one night in a row.
Transportation officials said the work is necessary to improve Route 31 and provide a smoother ride for motorists.
