Norfolk woman dead, Chesapeake man charged in DUI crash Sunday morning

VIRGINIA BEACH — A Norfolk woman is dead after a Chesapeake man, who was driving under the influence, hit her car on I-264 Sunday morning, police say.

According to the Virginia State Police, Teja Monique Freeman, of the 2400 block of Ludlow Street, had her hazard lights on when she stopped her 2012 Mazda 3 in the left lane of I-264 west near Witchduck Road.

Around 3:30 a.m., police say Christopher Hudson Kita, of the 2800 block of Wesley Road, hit the rear of Freeman’s car with his 2005 Toyota Tacoma.

Freeman died at the scene.

Kita, 28, was charged with driving under the influence: involuntary manslaughter. He may face other charges, depending on the decisions of the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

Kita is scheduled to be arraigned in Virginia Beach General District Court on Monday.
