NORFOLK — A 60-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly robbing a Downtown Norfolk bank on Thursday afternoon.

Jimmy Eugene Simons, of the 600 block of E. Princess Anne Road, was charged with robbery after police say he robbed a Wells Fargo, located at 440 Monticello Ave.

Police were called to the scene around 3:50 p.m., where bankers said a man walked into the bank and demanded money from a clerk, who complied, Norfolk Police spokesman Daniel Hudson wrote in an email.

No one was injured during the robbery, and the man fled the scene on foot. During a search of the area, police detained Simons, who matched the robber’s description, near Church Street and E. Princess Anne Road, Hudson wrote.

This is a developing story. Check back with Southside Daily for more details.
