
The Broad Creek Shopping Center entrance between IHOP and 7-Eleven in Norfolk will temporarily close beginning Monday, Jan. 23 through Wednesday, Jan. 25. as construction crews working on the Military Highway Continuous Flow Intersection Project can complete a storm drain installation.
Motorists can still use the entrance between KFC and Target to access the shopping center in the meantime, according to a city news release.
But from Thursday, Jan. 26 until Wednesday Feb. 1, the entrance between KFC and Target will only feature single inbound and outbound lanes to access the shopping center while a second storm drain is installed.
The Military Highway Continuous Flow Intersection Project in a multi-million dollar solution to mitigate congestion at the Military Highway and Northampton Boulevard intersection, according to the news release.
“There’s an awful lot of traffic that runs down this corridor. It’s very busy,” Bud Morgan, VDOT construction engineer, said. “The need is to increase capacity through that intersection. It’s one of the busiest intersections in the city of Norfolk.”
The project is slated to finish by May 2018.
