The case for a man accused of robbing a Shell gas station Dec. 4 in Williamsburg will move on to a grand jury.
A felony charge of robbery against Guillermo Martin Romero Jr, 27, was certified to go to a grand jury in the Williamsburg-James City County Circuit Court Thursday morning by General District Court Judge Colleen Killilea.
Three other charges connected to the alleged Dec. 4 robbery and a second attempted robbery Dec. 7 at the same Shell station were dropped Thursday.
The charges were nolle prossed, meaning the prosecution will not pursue the charges unless new evidence comes to light. The dropped charges include attempted robbery and two counts of wearing a mask in public, according to online general district court records.
Killilea told Romero in court that his trial would likely be in late March or April.
Romero’s attorney, Paul Freeman of Williamsburg, declined to comment on the case Thursday.
Romero is accused of robbing the Shell station, located in the 1600 block of Richmond Road, around 8:50 p.m. Dec. 4. Police say a white man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, jeans and boots displayed a knife and demanded money.
The clerk gave an undetermined amount of money, then Romero fled on foot, police said.
Police also said Romero entered the same Shell station around 9:15 p.m. Dec. 7 and demanded money again. The second time, the clerk refused to cooperate, and Romero fled on foot.
Police arrested Romero, of James City County, in the morning of Dec. 8.
No injuries resulted from either incident.
