The City’s libraries want to minimize back-to-school stress.
Students and parents don’t even have to leave home to benefit, according to a release from Virginia Beach Public Library. The only requirement is a library card, which is free for City residents.
Here’s how the libraries say they can help make back-to-school way less harried:
- Last-minute book report? Access online research 24/7 through more than 40 databases available at www.VBgov.com/Research.
- Worried about homework or the SATs? Get live homework help from state-certified teachers for students in grades 3-12. Subjects include reading, math, science and SAT prep. Help is available Monday through Thursday from 3-9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, go here.
- Still stressed? Take a break and listen to music. With the Freegal service, patrons can download five songs per week. With Hoopla, another online offering, patrons can stream eight albums per month.
- If that doesn’t work, try streaming some yoga or Tai-Chi videos.
- Eat well. Find ideas in digital magazines such as Family Circle and Taste of Home, available to patrons through Zinio, a digital magazine collection.
To get a library card, go to any branch library. Bring a photo ID and proof of a Virginia Beach address. But don’t go on Monday, Sept. 5, because the libraries will be closed for Labor Day.
